Privacy Policy

Harf is a word game. There is no account and no sign-up: your progress is kept on your device, and the leaderboard, achievements and saved progress are in Apple's Game Center if you are signed in to it.

Game Center

If you are signed in to Game Center on your device, the game uses it for three things: the weekly leaderboard (your points this week, under the name and picture you chose in Game Center), achievements, and saving your progress (level, coins, stars and achievements) in your iCloud account so you can continue on another device. Apple stores and shows this under its policy, and you control it in iPhone Settings → Game Center. We do not receive or store your Game Center identifier on our servers.

What we store on our servers

• Words the game refuses: we sometimes count them to improve the word list, with no link to you: only the word, the level number and how often it was formed.
• If you report something about a note in the game: the text you write, with a random id the app generates on your device (it does not identify you; it limits how many reports are sent in a day).
• If you write to us from the contact page: what you put in it (name and email if you give them, and the message).
• From earlier versions of the game (before 1.2): they had our own leaderboard and sign-in with Apple or Google. For those still using them we keep a random id, a display name, a country (inferred from the connection when first registering, without storing the IP address), weekly points, and for those who signed in, their account identifier with the provider, their email if the provider shared it, and a copy of their progress. We will delete all of it once those versions are rarely used.

What we don't do

• We do not sell your data. What Google receives for analytics and ads is described below; nothing else is shared with anyone.
• We do not ask for your name or email, and we do not create an account for you.

Usage statistics

We use Google Analytics (through Firebase) to see how the game is played: which level was finished, how often hints and ads are used, and the like. These events carry no name and nothing you typed; they are tied to an identifier the app generates on your device, with general technical data (device type, OS version, approximate country) that Google processes under its policy.

Ads

The game has two kinds of ads: a video you choose to watch for extra attempts, and an ad that sometimes appears between levels. Both are served by Google AdMob. On first launch iOS asks whether you allow the game to track you (in Europe, after the consent form described below, and not at all if you declined personalized ads there): if you allow it, Google may use your device's advertising identifier to show ads based on your interests and to link what you see here with your activity in other apps and websites; if you decline, ads are requested as non-personalized and are not based on your interests. You can change your choice in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. To show ads, Google receives technical data from your device (such as IP address and device type, and the advertising identifier if you allowed tracking) under Google's privacy policy.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the game shows Google's consent form on first launch, so you choose what data may be used for ads before any ad is requested. You can change your choice at any time under Settings → خيارات الإعلانات والخصوصية. If you decline, the optional ad stays available, but Google shows it without using your data to tailor it.

Reminders

If you allow notifications, the app schedules evening reminders on your device (the night's gift, your streak, attempts coming back). They are made and shown on your device alone: we send nothing from our servers and store nothing about them. You can turn them off under Settings → تذكير المساء, or in iOS Settings.

Where it is stored

What we store is on Cloudflare, which hosts the game's service and may keep short-lived technical request logs for operations. What belongs to Game Center is with Apple.

Deleting your data

Your progress on your device is erased by deleting the game, or under Settings → البدء من جديد (Start over), which also replaces the copy saved in iCloud. Your Game Center points, achievements and saved game are managed in iPhone Settings → Game Center, or you can ask Apple to delete them. In earlier versions of the game: Profile → حذف الحساب (Delete account) deletes your name, points, linked account and saved progress from our servers permanently and immediately.
